I think taking pictures during storms are unique. They can provide personality vs. a perfect sunny day. You never really know what type of background or lighting you may be provided.
Its a pretty cool function discovered on the camera was the ability to place a photo on top of another. Requires shooting in RAW and all you have to do is shoot one picture for example the one of my computer desk with my iPhone. Then shoot the same shot but this time I removed my iPhone. "Overlay" under settings and Voila!
Machinery is always fun to shoot up close becuase there are so many shapes to compose. Here are two pictures of a diesel motor being rebuilt. Gotta to try to find more to shoot.

Few more low light work pictures...upper one was taken during a night repair and I liked how the single light source seemed to high light the focal point being the circuit boards. The second picture was taken in the apparatus bay during the afternoon. I was just walking by the rig and I liked how the light was coming through the windows and illuminating the side of it. Plus we just washed it and it look good!
Taking shots in low lighting is pretty tricky and usually requires a tripod or a steady hand, especially when you don't have the luxury of a VR type lens. I took these shots hand held with a wide aperture lens (F1.8) to maximize the amount of light on the cameras sensor. Its always fun to bend the rules and find light sources other then the cameras flash, for example a simple table lamp or a LED flashlight.
Sometimes if taken at the right angles, mother nature's natural aging process can provide a picture with all types of textures. These shots were taken in La Jolla right after a passing storm which provided some turbulent waters adding more textures.
